👯‍♂️ Welcome to the Digital Twin Newsletter

Digital Twin is a resource library and community for artists, collectors and brands looking  to get smarter on NFTs and Web 3.

Since this is our very first post, we wanted to get started by sharing our mission:

We want to empower artists, collectors, and brands to engage with NFTs as a means to bridge the gap of education in the crypto ecosystem.

At the end of 2021, there were just under 2 million unique *active* wallets that bought or sold NFTs...compare that to a marketplace like eBay which had over 187 million active users last year, and you can see how we're just getting started in this space. Onboarding users into this space has proven itself to be a massive technical barrier and we want to help guide you.

By subscribing to this newsletter, you can look forward to exclusive interviews with artists, collectors, and brands navigating Web3 and weekly resources that highlight what's happening in this constantly evolving space.

This week we want to focus our conversation on the intersection of Photography & Web3

📸PHOTOGRAPHY NFTs TRENDING IN 2022

We stand by Garyvee's prediction that photography NFTs will be a force to be reckoned with in 2022.

🔮PHOTOGRAPHY COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

With the rise of NFTs, came the rise in popularity of another Web3 product - DAOs (otherwise known as decentralized autonomous organizations). As creators and collectors pour into the space, they also seek communities to learn and grow from.

One prominent Photography based DAO, known as Obscura, was created to enable and set free the creative possibilities for photographers. Their platform supports photographers to pursue their projects through the sales of NFTs. Through their community they offer grants and commissions for photographers to grow in this Web3 space.

This week we interviewed Ari Romo a film and digital photographer that joined Obscura and was selected to take part in the organizations first ever grant. Who We Are 200 is a collection made up of 100 photographers across the globe that were selected to document humans who are participating, building, and creating in Web3 and the NFT space in 2021.

In this talk, we discuss Ari's entrance into the NFT space as a photographer and what it was like achieving her first NFT sale. As part of her contribution to Obscura's collection, she contributed two NFT portraits - one of which was Justin Aversano, often deemed the "OG" of NFT photography.

👇Here are three highlights from our interview

  1. You have nothing to lose by reaching out to people. Shoot your shot.

  2. When artists incorporate storytelling into their work, it brings people together.

  3. Enjoy the process. If you enjoy the process of making art you're going to have great results. When you stop worrying about sales and the output, you've made it.
